EARLIER @ September 17 | A Gold Coast man has been charged with allegedly making online threats to kill both Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Chief Health Officer Dr Jeanette Young.
The 43-year-old man from Nerang was charged with one count of Using a Carriage Service to Make a Threat to Kill overnight after police raided his home.
“Detectives executed a search warrant at a Nerang property last night as a result of investigations into alleged threats made against the Queensland Premier and the Chief Health Officer,” Queensland Police said.
He’s due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on October 7.
It comes after it was revealed earlier this week that the Chief Health Officer had been given a police escort by the Queensland Government after receiving online threats.
“Jeannette now has a couple of police outside of her house, who go with her everywhere,” AMA Queensland President Dr Chris Perry said on Monday.
“It’s been quite stressful and it hasn’t been helped by cowardly people who are threatening to take the life of a woman.”
Dr Young, who continues to face criticism for her tough stance on border exemptions, said the State Government is helping her feel supported.
“It has taken an enormous toll on me,” Dr Young told reporters on Monday.
“That helps me … That our government here in Queensland is prepared to support me to that extent.
“The support that they have shown to me has made me feel much, much safer doing what I need to do.”
