GOLD Coast Mayor Tom Tate will be released from hospital within days after undergoing surgery for bowel cancer.
The mayor continues to recover in Pindarra Private Hospital following last Wednesday’s successful surgery.
myGC can confirm the Mayor is expected to be discharged on Friday, however, it’s not yet clear when he will resume his official mayoral duties.

Until then, the city will remain under the watchful eye of Deputy Mayor Donna Gates.
Last Monday, the 58-year-old Mayor revealed he had been diagnosed with bowel cancer after doctors discovered polyps in his intestine.
At the time, the Mayor issued a desperate plea for all Gold Coast men and women over 50 to have regular blood tests.
Bowel cancer is Australia’s second biggest cancer killer and affects both men and women of all ages.
Often, there are no warning signs, however, if you get onto it early, it can be treated successfully.
