A Gold Coast mother is $250,000 richer after scratching one of the top prizes on a scratchie gifted to her from her sister-in-law at a recent family gathering.
The ecstatic woman confessed she was left shaking when the $250,000 prize was revealed.
“We had a big family catch-up last week and the Instant Scratch-Its ticket was a gift from my sister-in-law. But we didn’t scratch the ticket until after everyone had left,” the woman explained to a Golden Casket official.

“When we scratched it, I looked at the ticket and I couldn’t believe it. I looked at the instructions to check I was reading it correctly. We passed it around and all had a look at the ticket to double check.
“I was shaking. I thought ‘Oh my God!’.
“I immediately texted my sister-in-law asking ‘Are you home yet? Are you sitting down?’.”
The sister-in-law admitted she initially thought something was wrong and immediately responded.
“She sent through a photo of the scratched ticket. I could see it had won $250,000. It was just amazing,” the sister-in-law said.
“It couldn’t happen to a nicer family!”
The winning mum confessed she had no firm plans for the windfall at this stage, but added it would help set the family up for the future.
The winning ticket was purchased from Boronia Park News at Boronia Heights.
