Gold Coast police facing brutality claims

ALEX HEINKE reports.

A Queensland man who claims CCTV backs up his allegations of police brutality on the Gold Coast is seeking $100,000 in damages.

Michael Cox was arrested and taken to the Surfers Paradise police station in May last year.

Images from CCTV footage, leaked to The Courier Mail, appear to support his claims that a watch house officer handcuffed him, broke his wrist and slammed his head into the floor.

It’s the second incident involving leaked footage from the same watch house, with an internal review of policing culture on the Gold Coast already underway.
