Gold Coast Police Hub up and running, crime down

GOLD Coast families are now even safer with Queensland’s first ever Rapid Action and Patrols Police Hub now up and running on the glitter strip.

Unlike traditional divisional policing, the Rapid Action and Patrols Hub delivers officers directly to any areas in need on the Gold Coast.

Officers are also able to stay mobile throughout their shift and can work off either an iPad or an iPhone, rather than having to return to a station.

So far crimes targeted by the Rapid Action and Patrols group have dropped, with Unlawful Entry down 30 per cent, Robbery down 18 per cent and Assault down 15 per cent.

Deputy Commissioner Pointing said the group is now operating out of a purpose built facility at Varsity Lakes.

“The Rapid Action and Patrols Group is staffed by a contingent of 100 officers and will carry on the good work and achievements of Taskforce Takeback,” Deputy Pointing said.

“The Rapid Action and Patrols Group is a highly visible, low tolerance, agile unit working in partnership with other government agencies, focusing on public disorder and crime suppression.”
