Gold Coast police seek help to locate owner of kayak found floating in ocean

UPDATE 4AM: The owner of a kayak found abandoned off shore at Burleigh on Friday afternoon, has made contact with police.

The red kayak was spotted about 500-metres off shore near First Avenue around midday, prompting a search by water police and lifesavers.

The man eventually got in touch with police, explaining that he was hit by a large wave, knocking him from the vessel. He swam to shore.

FIRST: POLICE are seeking urgent public assistance to help locate the owner of an empty kayak which was found floating in the ocean on the Gold Coast.

A member of the public located the red kayak and a fishing road around 500 metres off shore near First Avenue in Burleigh Waters just after midday on Friday.

Police have so far been unable to locate its owner or identify any missing or outstanding people in the area.

Water police and lifesavers on jet skis have patrolled the area but have failed to locate anyone.
