Gold Coast police step up patrols following Sydney siege

POLICE have stepped up patrols across the Gold Coast this afternoon in the wake of a terrifying, suspected terror-related siege in Sydney.

Sydney’s Martin Place has been shut down as heavily armed police surround the Lindt Chocolate Cafe where at least two gunmen are inside holding as many as 50 staff and customers hostage.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Steve Hollands told the Gold Coast Bulletin that police had increased their presence across high-traffic areas of the Gold Coast.


“We are increasing our visibility in places where members of the public congregate and asking people to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious behaviour,” he told the Bulletin.
