Storm season is just around the corner. And, with last season bringing intense rain and flooding from ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie that caught some off guard, now is the time to prepare.
The City of Gold Coast today launched its disaster preparedness campaign, “Get Ready Gold Coast”, to explain how you can best prepare your home.with an emergency plan, an emergency kit, and a copy of the Community Disaster Guide.
Below is a list of things you must do as soon as possible so that you’re not caught off-guard.

Firstly, you’ll want to bookmark this City of Gold Coast web page to get all of the latest online information on road closures, weather warnings, traffic and beach conditions should a disaster happen.
Download and print a copy of the Gold Coast’s emergency plan checklist.
Prepare an emergency kit so that you can be self-sufficient in the event of extended loss of electricity, water and gas. It should include:
- battery radio and spare batteries;
- first aid kit;
- strong plastic garbage bags;
- tarpaulin and tape for temporary repairs and protecting windows;
- tools to turn off utilities such as water;
- copies of important documents in sealed plastic bags.
