MOTORISTS are already seeing some heavy holiday congestion as people flock to the beach to enjoy the beautiful, sunny weather on the Monday public holiday.
Southport and Main Beach look to be the areas suffering the worst traffic conditions at this stage, as people people make their way to The Spit.

The Gold Coast Highway through Southport and Main Beach is experiencing major delays in both directions – southbound is looking particularly bad.
Waterways Drive and Marine Parade are also looking like a bit of a nightmare for everyone heading to The Spit.
Smith Street for the run towards the Highway is also very slow from Kumbari Ave.
It’s a similar story heading east on Queen Street from the intersection with High Street.
If you’re heading to Chevron Island, expect some delays heading east on Thomas Drive from the intersection with Bundall Road right through to the Highway.
Through Surfers Paradise, The Esplanade is moving very slow, particularly northbound.
On the M1, seeing some delays south through Mudgeeraba and Robina and northbound through Elanora and Palm Beach.
There are further busy patches from Ormeau down towards Movie World as people hit the theme parks.
The Gold Coast Highway is also a little slow through the Palm Beach area as well.
Motorists are being urged to be aware of heavier conditions throughout the day today and exercise caution and patience on the roads.
