Gold Coast roads flood with holiday congestion

Motorists are being urged to be patient on the roads today, with local streets already filling up with heavy traffic.

Anyone heading into Southport or the Spit is being warned of major congestion, with heavy delays along the Gold Highway between North Street and Waterways Drive.

Waterways Drive, Seaworld Drive and Main Beach Parade are also heavily congested as holiday-makers try to make the most of the Boxing Day public holiday.

The delays are also causing congestion heading east on Smith Street and Queen Street towards the Highway.

On the Pacific Motorway (M1) there are also a significant amount of delays.

It’s bumper to bumper from Mudgeeraba heading southbound towards Palm Beach.

The northbound run is also looking very slow between Tugun and Palm Beach.

Heading out of Brisbane, there are plenty of delays from Loganholme all the way down to Helensvale.

The Gold Coast Highway is looking quite slow through Broadbeach and Surfers and is continuing to build as the day progresses.

If you’re looking for a way around some of the local congestion, Bermuda Street, Bundall Road and Ferry Road aren’t looking too bad at this stage.
