Gold Coast school in mourning following student’s sudden death

Students at a northern Gold Coast high school will be offered counselling services today following the shock death of a classmate.

It’s understood the 15-year-old boy collapsed after suffering a “serious medical incident” at Ormeau Woods State High School on Thursday.

He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition however sadly died.

The school informed parents and carers of the tragic news in a post on Facebook.

“As some of you may be aware, a student suffered a serious medical incident at school this morning,” Acting Principal Dan Finn wrote.

“Please understand that we must respect the privacy of the family at this time and so we cannot provide further details.”

The school said they understand that “children may be affected by this situation” and have offered counselling for anyone who may need support.

“Guidance or counselling services are being made available for anyone who may require support,” the education facility said.

“Students can access counselling services in the Resource Centre tomorrow by asking for an out-of-class pass from their class teacher.”

A cause of death has not been confirmed however it’s not believed to be suspicious.
