Gold Coast shooting victim likely blinded

A young man has likely been blinded after he and his father were shot at a Gold Coast property on Boxing Day.

The man accused of shooting them with a sawn-off shotgun at their Pimpama home will spend New Year’s in custody after he was denied bail yesterday.

Police say the 24-year-old has already lost sight in his right eye and will probably lose it in his left after being shot at close range.

Francesco Surace was denied bail in the Southport Magistrates Court today but his brother Giuseppe was granted bail, after a court heard he only went to the property to remove his brother.

The two victims remain in hospital in a serious condition.
