Gold Coast Show a community hit

FAMILIES flocked to the Gold Coast show over the long weekend, making the most of all the new features at the Gold Coast Turf Club.

Over 50,000 people flocked to the new home in Bundall to check out the thrills and spills of the annual event, which now includes a day of horse racing.

Turf club CEO Grant Sheather said public areas of the turf club attracted a strong flow of patrons keen to watch some live racing as part of the entertainment offered at the club’s Bundall precinct.

“A lot of families took the opportunity to watch races from our lawns as the carnival atmosphere generated by the show spilled over to the club,” said Mr Sheather.

“There were lots of happy kids, mums and dads, clowns, entertainers and others who mixed with regular punters, many of whom brought their own families along to spend some time at the show as well”.

“We were delighted with the community spirit that was evident and also with the strong endorsement of the venue which was clear, clean, spacious and essentially dust free which is rare for show sites.”

Mr Sheather said the success of the day was indicative of the close cooperation between the turf club and the show society.

“A huge amount of work was done by all concerned to organise and conduct both the show and the raceday and the combination of events proved to be a winner with the community.”
