The Gold Coast has woken to the first day of spring with a layer of smoke this morning, thanks to a number of burns around the city.
A thick layer has settled in around the high rises along the beach, stretching out towards the hinterland hills.
It’s affecting visibility on the roads as well, but not to a hazardous level just yet.

The haze is all due to a couple of hazard reduction burns happening to the west in Canungra today.
Fire crews are working out there today, warning of smoke in the area for many hinterland suburbs.
“Smoke may be seen in and around the Tamborine Mountain, Canungra, Witheren, Clagiraba, Beechmont and Lower Beechmont areas,” QFES advice warns.
It’s in conjunction with another burn happening around Hinze Dam, which is being carried out by SEQ Water.
Some of the best views are being experienced by the 1029 Hot Tomato crew, who have taken some lucky winners up in hot air balloons thanks to Hot Air Balloon Gold Coast this morning.
The footage coming through is something from a dream!
