Gold Coast steps up care for mums and bubs

MOTHERS with high risk pregnancies are now able to stay on the Gold Coast instead of having to travel to Brisbane for specialist care.

Gold Coast Health has expanded women’s healthcare, with the opening of a tertiary Maternal Fetal Medicine Service at Gold Coast University Hospital.

The service provides women and their families with comprehensive management of maternal and fetal disease before, during and after pregnancy and birth.

Care is provided by a dynamic, multidisciplinary team of seven including doctors, midwives and sonographers.

Since opening in March, the new unit has seen more than 200 women and their babies and over 500 occasions of service.

More than 2,000 women are expected to use the service every year once it’s running at full operational capacity.
