Gold Coast teen loses fight for life after suffering allergic reaction at school

The family of a Gold Coast teenager who suffered a severe allergic reaction on Monday have let the community know their son will not survive.

Fifteen-year-old Helensvale High School student Breyton Horomona has been in an induced coma all week.

Sadly, he is not expected to survive.

Helensvale High School released a statement on Friday morning, confirming the devastating news.

“Our school community is deeply saddened by the heart-breaking news that due to a medical incident on Monday, Breyton Horomona’s brain will not be able to sustain his life,” the statement read.

“Our thoughts and best wishes are with the Horomona family and we have communicated our deepest condolences and sympathies.

“Our school will also continue to offer any assistance to all in our school community deeply affected by this tragedy.”

“We will honour Breyton and stand together as a community to display our sympathy, solidarity and ongoing support,” the statement concluded.

Counselling and support services have been arranged for students at the school.

A Go Fund Me account was set up last night to help raise money for Breyton’s family as they prepared to farewell their son.

In the 21 hours since, more than 230 generous Gold Coasters have donated a combined $20,000.

“It is with a heavy heart at this time we seek your help for our dear Horomona family as they prepare to farewell their son Breyton Tamati Horomona,” the Go Fund Me page reads.

“At the age of 15, Breyton suffered an allergic reaction and has been in an induced coma since Monday. He did not recover from this.

“We implore you to please dig deep for this beautiful selfless family as they prepare to face the difficult journey ahead.”
