Gold Coast teenager doused in petrol and set alight

UPDATE: An 18-year-old man has been placed in an induced coma after he was allegedly doused in petrol and set alight on the Gold Coast this morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which occurred on Wardoo St at Southport about 7.45am.

It is believed the teenager tried to seek help by door knocking residences in the area.

It is unclear whether this incident is related to any Schoolies activities.

 

EARLIER: Mystery surrounds an incident in Southport, which has left a teenager with serious burns.

The 18-year-old has been rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police want to talk with anyone who may have been travelling on Baratta Street in Southport around 7.45am on Sunday.

They are especially interested in those who saw the man’s silver Toyota Camry, with NSW number plate BM 52 VZ.
