Gold Coast to invest in better CCTV tech in upcoming budget

Gold Coast Council has given us another little teaser for the 2021/22 budget, revealing what will be spent on city safety.

The Mayor will today trial new CCTV camera technology, which will eventually be rolled out around the city.

Council will allocate $3 million in the upcoming budget to fund the new technology, which hopes to provide clearer imagery to support police efforts.

Mayor Tom Tate says this is an important issue for Gold Coasters.

“Safety is a key priority for residents. I hear it every year through the community budget survey,” Mr Tate said.

“We are again responding with this significant investment in new technology.

“The investment is in new mobile CCTV prototypes, using the latest technology, to better capture and deter antisocial behaviour in our suburbs.

“The benefit is that the imagery will be of the highest standard, to support our hard-working police.

“Presenting evidence from our cameras, through the courts, has helped successfully prosecute hundreds of offenders,” he said.

More details about the technology will be unveiled later today.
