Gold Coast tourism bosses return to council for extra funding

Tourism bosses will return to Gold Coast Council today, to better outline a revival plan for the industry.

Destination Gold Coast asked for up to $4 million in extra funding at a budget meeting last week, touting beach commercialisation and an intense marketing campaign as options.

The idea to commercialise the beaches did spark some interest from the Mayor, who’s backed a potential trial of the idea.

However, they were told to have a more concrete plan in place for how the money would be used before council could consider it.

Since the initial request, the Gold Coast has lost another major tourism event, with the GC600 officially pulled from the 2020 calendar.
