Gold Coast trams back in action after days of dramas

Gold Coast commuters can hop back on the trams again, with the issue that has plagued services over the weekend now resolved.

GoldlinQ released a statement on Sunday night, confirming a large team worked throughout the weekend to restore services.

“Extensive testing had been conducted by technical experts on the light rail network and tram testing has been able to commence following repairs being carried out,” CEO Phil Mumford said.

“This is a top priority for us. Everyone at GoldlinQ is focused on getting a solution for our passengers as quickly as possible.

“We have some of the best technical people from around the world working on this.”

It’s believed a fault in the fibre optic communication network between the Traction Power Substations (TPS) and the system’s control centre, linked to recent storm activity, is to blame for the outage.
