It comes amid fears that the Gold Coast University Hospital won’t be able to cope if we have a widespread outbreak.

Up to 10,000 unvaccinated people are predicted to require medical attention, which would significantly overburden the facility.

There are also reports emerging today that a 15-year-old* has been made to sleep on the floor of a room in the Covid ward for a week.

Local MP Sam O’Connor is calling for the teen and her parent to be allowed home to carry out their isolation.

The Queensland Health Minister is believed to be investigating the matter.

More information is expected later today.

*UPDATE: It’s understood the teen and her parent have since been granted permission to leave the covid ward and isolate at home.
