Gold Coast vax rate surge ahead of mandate

The Gold Coast has seen a surge in people getting their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine with all bar one area of the city now above 80 percent double dose.

The increase came ahead of the introduction of new vaccine mandates on Friday which allows only double vaccinated people to attend certain venues including pubs, clubs, and restaurants.

Weekly figures released on Monday show that overall, the Gold Coast now has 84.1 percent of the eligible population who have had two doses.

That’s up from 80.8 percent last week.

However, the number of people coming out for their first dose has stalled.

The rate of first doses is now at 88.9 percent, up from 87.5 percent a week ago.

Of all Gold Coast regions, only Nerang is just shy of the 80 percent double dose mark, sitting at 79.7 percent.

Broadbeach-Burleigh has the highest rate of vaccination at 88.3 percent double dose followed by Coolangatta on 86.5 percent.
