A young Gold Coast woman has allegedly been attacked with an axe and strangled during a terrifying altercation with a man known to her in a carpark in Brisbane’s CBD.
The alleged assault is understood to have unfolded in the Adelaide Street carpark just after 5.00pm yesterday.
Police say a man approached the woman, aged in her 20s, and allegedly threatened her with an axe while demanding she get in his car.

When she refused, a fight broke out and the woman was allegedly struck with the axe and then strangled.
A number of men who saw what was going on ran to the woman’s aid and managed to restrain the axe-wielding man until police arrived and he was taken into custody.
The 29-year-old from Wishart has since been charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, choking and enter premises with intent.
He’s due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
The young woman suffered a minor laceration to the back of her head and bruising to her shoulder and hands during the alleged attack, while one of the men who ran to her aid suffered a cut on his wrist.
