Gold Coast woman charged with rugby league identity’s murder

A GOLD COAST woman has officially been charged for murdering rugby league identity Tony McGrath last year.

The 45-year-old woman from Helensvale was detained in Sydney last Friday after Queensland Police issued a warrant for her arrest following extensive investigations into the murder of Mr McGrath, 57, on May 21, 2013.

She was extradited back to Queensland from New South Wales on Monday afternoon where she was officially charged with murder, attempted murder, arson, stupefying in order to commit indictable offence and enter premises with intent.

The 45-year-old woman is scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

Mr McGrath’s body was found in the garage of his Woolloongabba home. He had been shot in the head.

Police say a 43-year-old man already appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 6 in charges relating to this investigation.
