Gold coast yoga studio to host Aussie entrepreneur

A Gold Coast yoga and pilates studio is bringing out Australian entrepreneur and film maker Joe Cross to inspire hundreds to change their lives for the better following the launch of his latest venture, Reboot with Joe.

The socially-conscious, health and wellness company was founded by Mr Cross following the success of his award-winning documentary – Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead – which chronicled his personal story of transformation.

Hosted by Michelle Merrifield and the team at Essence of Living on Friday, this is the second time that Mr Cross will be speaking about his journey from morbidly obese to happy and healthy entrepreneur at the Mermaid Beach studio.

Ms Merrifield said Joe Cross has a truly inspirational story that has helped motivate countless others to embrace a healthier lifestyle.

“Joe’s story is not an uncommon one; so many people find themselves trapped in a cycle of unhealthy eating and sedentary lifestyle which often lead to debilitating health problems,” said Ms Merrifield.

“Hearing about Joe’s transformation is a truly inspiring experience and one that I recommend to anyone interested in making positive lifestyle choices,” she said.

Seven years ago, 100 pounds overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, Joe Cross set out on a journey across America in a bid to ‘reboot’ his life.

Knowing he needed a drastic change in lifestyle, Mr Cross traded in his typical junk food diet and vowed only to drink fresh fruit and vegetable juices for the next 60 days. Across 3,000 miles, he had one goal in life, to get off the pills and achieve a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Following the phenomenal response to the documentary chronicling this journey, Mr Cross then launched ‘Reboot with Joe’ to help spread his learning to a wider audience.

Reboot with Joe is a company that helps people achieve and maintain weight loss, and achieve health and wellness by simply adding more fruits and vegetables to their diets.

During a ‘reboot’, participants commit to consuming plant-based vegetable juices for a period of time with the goal of breaking the cycle of an unhealthy lifestyle and enhancing the quality of their diet.

“Juicing has become an increasingly popular phenomenon of late, as more people begin to recognise the health and potential weight-loss benefits it can offer,” said Ms Merrifield.

“Whether you participate in a ‘reboot’ for three days or 60 days, you are bound to feel the benefits on stocking up on fresh fruit and vegetables rich in vitamins and antioxidants,” she said.

The founder and head ‘angel’ of popular yoga and Pilates studio Essence of Living at Mermaid Beach, Michelle has built a health and wellbeing empire since starting the business in 2004, aged just 22.

Opening with just six yoga and Pilates teachers, Essence of Living now has 33 instructors on staff and has grown from training 200 to 2000 yoga and Pilates enthusiasts per week.

Self-described as an educator, entrepreneur, author and lover of life, Michelle is also one of the main drivers behind an era of positive change on the Gold Coast – introducing thousands of loyal yogis to the Ashtanga yoga practice and way of life for the past nine years.

The authenticity of Michelle’s trainings means those who practice at Essence of Living learn the traditional Vinyasa Yoga techniques derived from the Ashtanga Yoga roots, as taught by the legendary Indian guru Pattabhi Jois, along with the most advanced Pilates training techniques, including Pilates Barre.

In 2011 Michelle teamed up with a friend to release her own book – Breathe, Bend, Blossom – and later that year also published ‘Body Buddhaful,’ a 12-week journal and eating plan to use alongside the 12 week wellness program of the same name at the studio.

Now a writer of her own blog, Michelle has graced the cover of Yoga magazines in both the UK and Australia and has developed Essence of Living TV, with Yoga and Pilates classes accessible both online and on DVD.

The Reboot with Joe free event will be taking place at the Essence of Living studio located at 52 Peerless Ave, Mermaid Beach on Friday from 6.30pm – 8.30pm.

RSVPs are encouraged with attendance limited to 150 people – please call (07) 5526 6600 to reserve your place.
