His lawyer, Daniel Hannay, spoke to reporters outside of court.

“For a 19-year-old child charged with such a serious offence, he’s holding up okay.

“It’s an absolutely tragic set of circumstances, but it would be inappropriate of me to discuss the matters that are before the court, and the facts surrounding the allegation,” Mr Hannay said.

Earlier @6.30AM | A Gold Coast man and his friend will face court today, charged over the death one of their ex-girlfriends’ father.

It’s alleged that the two 19-year-olds went to the ex-girlfriend’s house in Springfield Lakes around 8.30pm on Saturday night, where one of them broke in and punched her in the face.

He then stole her phone before the two men fled in a white utility.

A short time later, the girl’s father – a 49-year-old – and a 20-year-old family friend, started following the men in a silver sedan.

Both vehicles came to a stop along The Promenade around 10.00pm, where all occupants exited the vehicles.

Police say one of the pair then struck the 49-year-old on the head with a firearm, causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.

The 20-year-old tried to help him and was also allegedly assaulted.

The two 19-year-olds then fled the scene in the ute.

Paramedics attended the scene, though despite desperate attempts, the 49-year-old father was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two 19-year-olds were found at a nearby house in Atlantic Street just before midnight, where they were both taken into custody.

The 19-year-old Molendinar man and the 19-year-old Springfield Lakes man have both been charged with one count each of murder, common assault, enter dwelling and robbery with violence.

They’re due to front Ipswich Magistrates Court today.
