Update @1.30pm | A Gold Coast teenager has been remanded in custody after fronting court in Ipswich, charged over the murder of his ex-girlfriend’s dad.
19-year-old Kynan Vital and his mate Ethan McPherson are each facing multiple charges, after going to Julia Murphy’s home in Springfield Lakes on Saturday night.
One of them allegedly broke into the home around 8.30pm and punched Ms Murphy in the face before the two of them fled in a ute.

Ms Murphy’s dad then allegedly followed the pair in a sedan with a family friend, before the cars stopped and a confrontation broke out.
One of the 19-year-old’s allegedly struck David Murphy with a firearm and allegedly assaulted the family friend.
Mr Murphy died at the scene.
Today, Gold Coaster Kynan Vital fronted court in Ipswich, where he was called to the dock.
Magistrate Donna MacCallum remanded Vital in custody until November 13.
He reportedly sobbed and said ‘I love you mum’ when he was taken out of the dock.
His lawyer, Daniel Hannay, spoke to reporters outside of court.
“For a 19-year-old child charged with such a serious offence, he’s holding up okay.
“It’s an absolutely tragic set of circumstances, but it would be inappropriate of me to discuss the matters that are before the court, and the facts surrounding the allegation,” Mr Hannay said.
Earlier @6.30AM | A Gold Coast man and his friend will face court today, charged over the death one of their ex-girlfriends’ father.
It’s alleged that the two 19-year-olds went to the ex-girlfriend’s house in Springfield Lakes around 8.30pm on Saturday night, where one of them broke in and punched her in the face.
He then stole her phone before the two men fled in a white utility.
A short time later, the girl’s father – a 49-year-old – and a 20-year-old family friend, started following the men in a silver sedan.
Both vehicles came to a stop along The Promenade around 10.00pm, where all occupants exited the vehicles.
Police say one of the pair then struck the 49-year-old on the head with a firearm, causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.
The 20-year-old tried to help him and was also allegedly assaulted.
The two 19-year-olds then fled the scene in the ute.
Paramedics attended the scene, though despite desperate attempts, the 49-year-old father was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two 19-year-olds were found at a nearby house in Atlantic Street just before midnight, where they were both taken into custody.
The 19-year-old Molendinar man and the 19-year-old Springfield Lakes man have both been charged with one count each of murder, common assault, enter dwelling and robbery with violence.
They’re due to front Ipswich Magistrates Court today.
