Elderly man found, six hours after vanishing from Gold Coast nursing home

UPDATE 4:15 PM | A 78-YEAR-OLD man has been found safe and well, more than six hours after going missing from a nursing home on the Gold Coast.

William Weeks suffers from a medical condition and wandered off from his aged care home on Glenhaven Court in Merrimac around 9.20am on Monday.

Police issued a missing person alert for Mr Weeks at 3.40pm after staff failed to find him, urging residents to search their yards for the elderly man.

But, within minutes of police going public with the alert, myGC can confirm Mr Weeks was found safe and well.

According to a source at the nursing home, the 78-year-old has been taken to hospital where he will be assessed as a precaution.

FIRST 3:40 PM | RESIDENTS are being urged to search their yards and sheds for an elderly man, missing on the Gold Coast.

William Weeks, 78, was last seen at an address on Glenhaven Court in Merrimac around 9.20am on Monday.

Police say the 78-year-old suffers from a medical condition and could have wandered into somebody’s yard.

“It is believed he could be walking around or using buses or trains to travel around the Gold Coast, Ipswich or Brisbane areas,” police said in a statement shortly after 3.30pm.

“[we] are asking residents in the Merrimac area to check their yards and sheds.”

Mr Weeks also answers to his middle name, “Des”.

He is described as being Caucasian in appearance, 175cm tall with grey hair, and may possibly be wearing a dark Akubra hat, dark long trousers, chequered shirt and dark shoes.

Anyone who has any information about the whereabouts of Mr Weeks is urged to contact police immediately.
