Gold Coasters encouraged to outrun cancer with the ‘treadmill challenge’

Local Gold Coaster Marian Reid and her Relay For Life teammates are passionate about raising funds for the fight against cancer and they are inviting the community to help them outrun the disease with a treadmill challenge!

The team, ‘Coolcats’, have already started fundraising for Cancer Council Queensland’s Gold Coast Relay For Life, which is set to be held at Doug Jennings Park at The Spit on September 16-17.

Ms Reid said after the success of their Treadmill Challenge last year, they were excited to be holding it again on Saturday, July, 15, from 8am until 4pm, at EMF Harbour Town.

“EMF Harbour Town is my local gym and we are incredibly grateful that they get behind our fundraising efforts,” Ms Reid said.

“People can pay a $5 donation to have a 30minute walk, run or cycle, with all funds going directly to Relay For Life.

“It’s a great way to increase your fitness ahead of the Relay and you don’t need to be a member to join in – simply register at EMF Harbour Town or come on the day.

Ms Reid knows personally how hard it is to lose someone to the disease.

“My husband passed away from cancer in 2007 and Cancer Council supported me with counselling.

“We want to raise awareness of how devastating cancer is, and let people know that Cancer Council is there to support those going through a diagnosis and their loved ones.”

All funds raised from Relay For Life support Cancer Council Queensland’s vital work in cancer research, prevention programs and local support services.
