Gold Coasters hoping Burleigh will be a sea full of fluro love on R U Ok? Day

One in five people will experience mental health issues in their lifetime and 65% of these people never seek help.

It’s a staggering statistic, and one that a bunch of Gold Coasters aren’t ok with.

This Thursday a group of local surf lovers, including Ironmen Caine Eckstein and Wes Berg, are bringing the popular and colourful OneWave movement to Burleigh Heads to coincide with R U OK? Day & World Suicide Prevention Day.

OneWave tackles funks like depression, anxiety and bipolar with a simple recipe; salt-water, surfing, good mates and lots of Fluro.

Wes Berg told myGC that Thursday will be the start of many OneWave events here on the Coast, with the group hoping to organise a Fluro Friday paddle out every week.

“It’s really a chance to show people that we are there for them,” he said.

“Fluro Fridays are about getting people down to Burleigh Heads beach, getting them excited and enjoying some saltwater therapy together. We dress up and it’s cool to make a scene so people realise that everyone is different and unique.

“It helps people connect with each other and deal with each other’s problems. I think the best thing about being in the ocean is it’s so cleansing and people seem to really open up and enjoy themselves.”

All Gold Coasters are encouraged to come along on Thursday from 6:30am for the paddle out to help create a massive human LOVE out in the ocean.
