There were fears strong winds and rain could spoil New Year’s Eve celebrations on the Gold Coast but it looks like that won’t be the case.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting it will be a partly cloudy day on Thursday with only a very slight chance of some light showers along the coastal fringe.
Temperatures are expected to reach 28 degrees.

There is a strong wind warning in place for Gold Coaster waters, with winds south to southeasterly at around 20 to 30 km/h.
However, in a ray of light for those planning to catch the beach-side fireworks, the winds are expected to become much lighter across the late evening.
For the first day of 2016, there will be a little bit of cloud hanging around but it should be a mostly fine day.
The Bureau is predicting only a 10% chance of showers and top temperatures once again around 28 degrees.
Saturday is looking like the most promising day with nothing but sunshine and warm tops of 30 degrees on the way.
