Gold Coasters itching with excitement for eased restrictions tomorrow

We’re almost at the weekend, which means pubs, clubs and restaurants around the Gold Coast can begin welcoming back visitors.

Queensland is about to embark on its first stage of eased restrictions, and in a lot of ways, we’re ahead of our southern neighbours.

From midnight, up to ten people will be allowed to gather in pubs, restaurants and cafes at a time, while playgrounds and parks will also be able to open back up.

Households will be able to have up to five visitors, all from separate households.

Police will of course be on the look out for anyone caught breaching social distancing rules, such as large gatherings at Burleigh Hill.

However, many local businesses are taking on bookings to have us all back as soon as possible.

Erfan from Shiraz Authentic Persian is very excited, telling 1029 Hot Tomato’s he’s been preparing to reopen for weeks.

“We’re going to go ahead with the bookings, we’ve already got a few, some spots have been booked out because a table of ten has been booked and that’s all we can take for an hour.

“We’ve been doing a lot of spring cleaning, a lot of renovations, in all the time we’ve had in the past weeks.

“And today we’re going to have the restaurant fully sanitised by a commercial grade sanitisation company, so we’re very excited,” he said.

Nicky from the Marketplace Cafe in Robina is looking forward to setting up the tables and chairs.

“We’ve already stayed open the whole entire time, but we’re actually looking forward to having up to ten people at a time in our little cafe.

“I’m getting excited to actually have tables and chairs outside will be fabulous.

“We’ll take bookings, it’s only ten people at a time, so we will have five tables to two, but if four people want to book in of course we’ll do it that way,” she told 1029 Hot Tomato.
