Northern Gold Coasters are being warned of a big hazard reduction burn starting today, which is expected to produce a bit of smoke around the area.
The ‘large and strategic’ burn will take place between Wongawallan and Willow Vale from today.
The objective is to reduce fuel loads in the 175-hectare area of Wongawallan in the map below.

Nearby residents are being asked to stay clear of the area, with bushwalking through the area to be closed.
While neighbouring suburbs are being warned of lingering smoke in the area through until Tuesday.
Wayne Teece from Coomera Valley Rural Fire Brigade, which is partnering with Ormeau Rural Fire Brigade for the burn, says around 400 volunteers will be involved.
“At about 10.00 am (Friday, September 10) we will start burning, it will go right through the weekend so we will do the outsides of the fire for the three days and then it should burn for a couple of days.
“So probably Monday or Tuesday, residents of the Gold Coast will still see some significant smoke coming from this area,” Mr Teece said.
