Gold Coast’s deadliest intersections revealed

Gold Coasters are being warned to look out for three intersections across the city which have been dubbed the ‘deadliest’ in Queensland by the RACQ.

The worst intersections for serious crashes were revealed by the motoring body today, with three of the top 10 deadly sites in the state located on the coast.

RACQ Head of Public Policy Rebecca Michael expressed concern the intersection at Clifford Street and Gold Coast Highway/Remembrance Drive was the second most dangerous intersection in Queensland.

“Twenty people have been seriously hurt at this intersection, mainly because drivers aren’t giving way properly,” Dr Michael said.

She is now calling on governments to allocate funding to make intersections safer.

“The introduction of a fully controlled right turn, so drivers only turned on green, would go a long way reducing the number of serious crashes,” Dr Michael said.

“While the Blackspot Program has been successful in reducing the number of serious crashes in troublesome intersections, continued investment is needed for safer roads.”

Dr Michael reminded drivers it was their responsibility to ensure they entered an intersection safely.

“Crashes like these can be avoided by taking your time, giving way correctly, following at a safe distance and obeying traffic signals and signs.”

obviously the people that did this investigation have never driven through the intersection of doom outside McDonalds Robina, where turning left is like the last thing you will ever do in life, then get through it and thank the powers that be for surviving it.. Or going around the roundabout near the 711 at Robina where people think it is ok to turn right from the “go straight only” lane and while you are turning from the right hand lane to go into the town centre they nearly take you out and run into your passenger side door…Again, making the sign of the cross for making it through alive.
