Government considering giving grandparents ‘financial incentives’ for looking after grandchildren

GRANDPARENTS could soon be paid for looking after their grandchildren under a plan reportedly being considered by the Turnbull Government.

The government is looking at giving grandparents financial incentives for looking after the children of working parents, as more and more Australian parents are reportedly turning to their elders because they cannot afford or access childcare.

The proposal is in a list of Senate demands put to the Government for crossbench support of its $3.5 billion Jobs for Families package, due to start on 1 July 2017.

The package includes childcare deductions for families with incomes between $65,000 and $170,000 per year.
