Grass fire sparks traffic gridlock on Gold Coast’s M1

Fire crews have rushed to Upper Coomera after a fire broke out on the M1 median strip.

The blaze erupted in shrubland near Exit 54 around 10.30am, with emergency crews receiving several calls.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokesperson told myGC one crew is on scene dousing the flames.

However, the spokesperson confirmed the blaze is under control.

It’s causing major delays in the area, with traffic currently banked up in both directions.

Motorists traveling through the area are being urged to do so with caution.
