Groundwater Country Music Festival latest victim of virus restrictions

Organisers of the Groundwater Country Music Festival have confirmed the popular event will not go ahead in July as planned in another blow to the Gold Coast.

Broadbeach Alliance says with COVID-19 restrictions on mass gatherings still in place, it would be “impossible” for the festival to proceed.

“There is nothing the Broadbeach Alliance team loves more than seeing the Broadbeach precinct come alive with the sounds of some of the best country music on offer and they could not wait to present the 2020 festival to fans,” Broadbeach Alliance said in a statement.

The event is one of the most popular on the Gold Coast events calendar with more than 70,000 people turning out at last year’s festival.

Kasey Chambers, Shannon Noll, Tania Kernaghan and Gina Jeffreys were among the big names that had been locked in for the July event.

Organisers have given a glimmer of hope that fans will still get their country music fix, saying they are looking at alternative options for the festival.

“(We) would like to assure fans that they will be notified of any updates on Groundwater’s social media.”
