Gunman behind Oklahoma Airport shooting found dead in parking lot
UPDATE 3:50PM | A GUNMAN who shot and killed an employee at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City has been found dead.
The suspect was found dead in a truck in a parking garage, the Oklahoma City Police Department said. It’s understood he died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Police said it appeared the gunman waited in his truck for his victim, Southwest Airlines employee Michael Winchester, to leave work before shooting him dead.
Police said the shooting appeared to be premeditated, however, an exact motive was yet to be determined.
UPDATE @ 8.50am: Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma has been closed following a shooting.
Police confirmed an airline employee was shot dead Tuesday afternoon in a carpark at the airport.
“We can confirm that victim from shooting at WRWA is deceased,” the Oklahoma City Police Department said via Twitter.
“The deceased victim from Will Rogers Airport has been identified as Michael Winchester, an employee of Southwest Airlines.”
The airport remains closed and all flights in and out have been suspended.
Officers are currently working to move people out of the building.
The shooter remains at large, however, police said there was no reason to be alarmed.
EARLIER @ 7.40am: Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma has been closed following a shooting.
Police confirmed at least one person was shot Tuesday afternoon in a carpark at the airport.
Local media say officers are believed to be searching for a second shooting victim.
“We have confirmed one victim shot at Will Rogers Airport. Please avoid going to the airport at this time,” the Oklahoma City Police Department said via Twitter
People inside the airport were also told to seek shelter.
“We have closed Will Rogers Airport at this time. If you are inside of the airport, shelter in place until advised otherwise.”
All flights at the airport have been suspended and planes grounded.
