Gunman remains on the run after shots fired into GC police beat

A major manhunt is continuing this morning following a terrifying drive-by shooting targeting a Gold Coast police beat.

At least two shots were fired from a light-coloured sedan into the Arundel Police Beat along Napper Road around 3.45am on Monday.

One of the bullets hit the wooden front-door, while another hit a police vehicle parked outside the property.

A number of people were inside at the time, but fortunately, no one was injured.

Detective Acting Superintendent Chris Ahearn said it was an officer who made the discovery after hearing the gunshots.

“An officer was inside and heard a noise, and came out a short time afterwards to discover the damage,” he said.

Police have so far failed to locate the offender, while the motive behind the attack also remains unclear.

Detective Acting Superintendent Ahearn said it’s too early to say whether it was targeted or random, but admitted it is “extremely concerning”.

He did also confirm that there had been no threats made against Gold Coast police in the lead up to the shooting.

“None that we’re aware of, but that’s the subject of our investigation that will be examined in detail now going forward to give us an idea of any motive there could be for this attack,” he said.

“You don’t expect that to happen at your workplace and they are certainly very concerned, as are all officers who have seen this sort of thing happen”.

A crime scene remains in place as investigations continue.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or something suspicious in the area, or may have any relevant footage from the vicinity at the time, to come forward
