Severe Storm Warning

Hail, damaging winds likely as severe storm warning issued for Gold Coast


A severe storm warning has been issued for the Gold Coast and surrounding areas with a large band of storms moving in from the west.

The Bureau has warned that damaging winds and hail are likely.


Storm cells have been building inland throughout the afternoon and are now set to reach the coast.

Earlier today Goondiwindi recorded 3-4cm hail.

The storms are rapidly moving over the Hinterland and are set to hit other areas of the Gold Coast within the next hour.

Warnings are also in place for parts of Logan, Brisbane and Ipswich.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
