Hammer-wielding thief on the run after robbing Carrara servo

A hammer-wielding thief is on the run this morning after robbing a service station in Carrara.

Police said just before 7:25pm on Monday, a man entered the servo on Elysium Road armed with a hammer.

“The man entered the rear counter section while the store employee was busy with a customer, and has opened the cash register and removed a sum of cash,” Qld police said in a statement.

“The man has also taken cigarettes and placed them into a bag before fleeing the scene on foot.”

Luckily, no one was injured during the robbery.

The man is described as Caucasian and was last seen wearing long dark pants, a black floppy hat, and a bright orange shirt.
