Handbag thief on the run after slashing shopping centre security guard with a knife

Police are on the hunt for a suspected thief, who lashed out at a Pacific Fair security guard with a knife yesterday.

The 19-year-old security guard was trying to confront the thief who’s believed to have taken a handbag from a high-end store in the shopping centre just after 5.30 pm.

According to police, the offender then produced a large Stanley knife and started slashing towards the security guard.


The security guard tried to use a fire extinguisher to protect himself but sustained a cut to the back of his hand.

The suspect then ran off towards Hooker Boulevard and remains on the run this morning.

Investigations are continuing this morning.

While the 19-year-old security guard was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital with an injury to the back of his hand.
