Handgun, homemade shotgun and ammo found in police raids

A HOMEMADE shotgun disguised as a torch has been seized after police targeting the distribution of drugs raided two properties on the Gold Coast on Thursday.

Detectives from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad, the Gold Coast Firearms Investigation Team and Robina Police executed a search warrant on a residence at Varsity Lakes, where they allegedly located approximately 50 grams of amphetamines and drug utensils.

Police say evidence at the residence led police to another property at Molendinar where the homemade shotgun disguised as a torch along with more drug utensils were allegedly found.

Cannabis, further drug utensils, a .22 calibre revolver and 122 rounds of ammunition for the firearm were also allegedly located in a vehicle.

A 35-year-old Varsity Lakes man was arrested and charged with weapons and drug offences and is expected to appear before the Southport Magistrates Court today.

The raids formed part of Operation Lima Prompt and investigations are ongoing. Police expect further arrests to be made.
