Harry’s Steak Bistro and Bar to host a Mac Forbes Wine Dinner

Beef, booze and banter will be on the menu when Harry’s Steak Bistro and Bar hosts a Mac Forbes Wine Dinner later this month.

Contemporary Yarra Valley winemaker Mac Forbes is set to share his exciting selection of new vintage Australian wines at the  special dining event on Thursday, September 28.

Forbes will guide guests through a selection of five premium wines, including riesling, chardonnay and pinot noir, which will each be matched with a delicious dinner menu celebrating the best of new season produce.

Raised in the Yarra Valley, Forbes worked in old wine regions of Europe before returning to embark on his own journey of discovery in winemaking from 2004.

“My love for the industry is a pretty simply one – honest wines that reflect extraordinary sites,” Forbes said.

“I began to realise just how little we understood our own backyard. For a number of reasons, we appeared to be too busy trying to emulate the great wines of Europe rather than focus on what makes our sites unique, and our better sites world-class.

“My aim was to start with a blank canvas and find the balance between the restrained wines I love to drink and the unique environment of the Yarra Valley,” he said.

Harry’s general manager Peter Tayler said Mac Forbes’ sustainable approach to winemaking resonated with the restaurant’s own philosophy of sourcing the best available produce and letting the food speak for itself.

“The age-old style of winemaking is not necessarily where Australia is going, and Mac Forbes is part of a movement that is very much challenging that model by putting in the time and energy and effort to understand and nurture the vineyard to produce the best possible fruit, and then not messing with it too much so that each vintage speaks for itself,” Tayler said.

“It is something that we definitely focus on as well, particularly with beef. We source a great product and then present it in a very simplistic manner rather than covering the steak in different flavours so that customers enjoy the meal for what it is – a great cut of beef and good quality fries.”

Tayler said a limited number of tickets were now available for the Mac Forbes Wine Dinner, with the event expected to sell out in advance. The Mac Forbes Wine Dinner concludes a vibrant series of three wine dinners presented by Harry’s and Justin Lane Establishment, each showcasing seasonal dining inspired by the relaxed beachside vibes of Burleigh Heads.
