Gold Coasters are being urged to have a say on the future extension of the light rail across our city.
Mayor Tom Tate today launched a three-week community consultation seeking local’s preferences for light rail routes in the city’s south and west. “With Stage 2 already progressing, it’s time to jump in and get feedback on preferred options to help us make the right forward planning decisions,” he said.
He added: “This survey will provide a number of ideas with indicative maps and options for comment. We want to know what the public’s level of support is and which options they prefer. It’s so important for everyone to have their say on this and I urge you to jump on to gchaveyoursay.com.au to be a part of the city’s positive transport future.”

Cr Tate said the expansion of the light rail would boost people’s capacity to move around the city, reduce congestion on roads and improve commute times. “We’d like to see a public transport corridor that potentially connects the airport, major shopping centres and southern suburbs. By connecting key commercial centres and residential areas it will create economic growth, jobs and opportunities. With connections to heavy rail, Brisbane International Airport and Gold Coast Airport, a southern extension would enable inbound tourists to reach our tourist centres quickly and efficiently, reinforcing our position as Australia’s premier tourist destination.
He continued: “With an extended network, there would be easier connections between residents and the things we love to do in the city. We would have improved access to beaches, parks, dining and entertainment precincts. An extended network would also help create a modern city with connected centres that enable the growth of safe and active communities.”
Consultation closes 20 December. Plus Anyone who completes the survey has the opportunity to go into the draw to win one of 10 Robina Town Centre shopping vouchers to the value of $200.
