Hazard reduction burn underway on the Gold Coast

A HAZARD reduction burn is sending thick smoke billowing into the air above the Gold Coast.

Multiple fire crews are at the scene monitoring the blaze off Uplands Drive in Parkwood.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson told myGC the burn is expected to last throughout the remainder of the afternoon.

Although the fire is posing no immediate threat to property, it is producing thick smoke in the area which may affect residents and motorists.

Residents suffering from respiratory conditions are being urged to close their doors and windows and to keep medication close by.

Motorists are also being advised to use caution and drive to suit the conditions.
