Heartless thieves accused of using dead person’s belongings to extort woman

A PAIR of heartless thieves has been arrested and charged with trying to extort money from a woman in return for a dead family member’s belongings which they’d allegedly stolen from a house at Ipswich last month.

The thieves allegedly broke into a house in Brassall sometime during the day on Tuesday, September and stole a bag containing personal items of sentimental value from a deceased family member.

Police said the offenders used social media to contact the 40-year-old woman who lives at the house yesterday.

The thieves allegedly demanded money from the woman in exchange for the bag and personal items.

The woman subsequently called police who were able to track the two suspects to the Ipswich CBD.

A 31-year-old woman from Sadlers Crossing and a 30-year-old suspect from Eastern Heights were both arrested.

The duo has since been charged with extortion with intent to gain benefit with the threat of detriment and receiving tainted property.

They are both expected to front Ipswich Magistrates Court next month.
