Australia is set to get an early taste of Summer, with temperatures tipped to reach a staggering 40C by Thursday.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting severe and extreme weather in parts of the country as a scorching heatwave builds.
Temperatures are predicted to rise from tomorrow in all states except Tasmania, as a large high pressure system sweeps east across the country from Western Australia.

Lifeguards are expected to be on full patrol this weekend, with Sydney’s Bondi Beach tipped to hit 38C on Friday and Gold Coast’s Surfers Paradise expecting 33C over the weekend.
Brisbane is also in for a hot one, with 30C predicted for Wednesday, peaking at 34C on Saturday.
The scorching conditions are also expected to hit Melbourne, with forecasts of 34C on Thursday.
Adelaide will average a maximum of 35C from Tuesday to Thursday, with Perth also set to receive temperatures of 35C by Saturday.
The Northern Territory is expected to be hit with 35C throughout the week, with Alice Springs predicted to reach temps as high as 40C Thursday.
