Heavy delays on M1 after a man crashes into a fire truck

A man has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after crashing his car into the back of a fire truck this morning.

The accident occurred around 4am on the M1 at Rochedale South and has triggered massive delays.

The driver suffered head, leg and pelvis injuries and was rushed to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The car was wedged under the back of a fire truck and firefighters needed to use the jaws of life to rescue him.

They cut off the car’s roof and driver’s side door before pulling him through the back of the vehicle.

Northbound traffic on the M1 is extremely slow and motorists are being urged to use alternative routes.

The Gateway Motorway on-ramp to the Pacific Motorway has been closed by police, diversions are in place to the Logan Rd off-ramp.
