Herbal practitioner charged over patient’s death

A CHINESE herbal medicine practitioner has been charged with manslaughter following the death of one of his patients in Sydney.

Yen Sen Lou, 52, was arrested at Hornsby Police Station on Thursday afternoon following a protracted police investigation into the death of a 56-year-old woman in June.

It’s alleged the Mr Lou had been treating the woman for an existing medical condition and instructed her to go off her medication in May – just two weeks before she died.

The woman had only arrived in Sydney from China in March to visit her family.

After the woman’s passing, doctors raised concerns with police who set up a special strike force to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

Following the results of a post mortem examination, detectives moved to arrest Mr Lou who was charged with manslaughter and remanded in custody overnight.

His case was mentioned briefly in Hornsby Local Court today ahead of his bail application next Tuesday.

The Chinese doctor claims to treat depression, asthma, infertility and ADHD.

His registration has been suspended.
