ONE man has been killed and three others injured in a horror high-speed crash in the NSW Riverina.

The accident happened at Turvey Park, in the regional city of Wagga Wagga on Monday morning.

It’s understood a blue Holden Commodore sedan smashed into a Ford Falcon ute on Coleman Street, near Trevor Street, around 10am.

Witnesses told local media the P-plater behind the wheel of the Commodore appeared to be speeding along the straight stretch of road before the shocking impact.

“Witnesses say the blue Commodore looked like it was involved in a street race with another car, and was trying to overtake another car when it collided with the ute,” The Daily Advertiser reported.

Coleman Street is lined with houses, a TAFE campus, and a high school and has a maximum speed limit of 50km/h.

The driver of the ute, believed to be a local man aged in his 40s, was trapped in the wreck and died at the scene.

Three other men from the Commodore, aged 20 and 21, were taken to the Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital.

Miraculously, they escaped life-threatening injuries and were all transported in stable conditions.

Coleman Street has been closed off in both directions between Edmondson and Docker Streets.

The residential street was expected to remain closed for most of the day while the Crash Investigation Unit from Sydney made the five-hour drive to the regional city to examine the scene.
